Borough Market is every foodie’s dream, with endless free samples of everything from cheese to venison burgers it certainly gets your mouth watering. Even for someone like me, who only eats chicken breast, canned tuna and pasta (slight exaggeration but you get the picture), Borough Market is a good way to kill a few hours. I love tasting the delicious cheese and looking at the beautifully presented fish that I will most likely never eat.
On mine and Clint’s latest trip, it was actually quite romantic and it got me thinking what a nice date it makes. It has been a while since we had really spent some time together and it was nice to just walk and talk. The smells, the colours and the buzz of conversation appeal to every sense making it a pleasurable experience. Mix in a bit of good company and it will leave you feeling pretty damn good.
There’s a stall that sells meat but also the most amazing chicken burgers and wraps and at around £5, they not only fill you up but aren’t going to break the bank either. I went for the burger, Clint went for the wrap and we sat outside a juice stall on a pallet and people watched. I do love to be wined and dined but the simplicity of that moment was what made it. It was like we didn’t need anything else, just somewhere to park our bums, each other and some great chicken.
It’s probably a little unconventional for a date but I think it works, especially if you’re both foodies. Why not spend the day at Borough Market getting ingredients to cook your favorite dishes and then head back home to spend the evening cooking and of course, eating. Throw in a nice bottle of wine and you’ve got the perfect day-to-evening date.
First date? No, but it’s a good way to get to know a little more about each other. Probably the fifth date in my eyes.
Price? Will vary on how much you’re willing to spend. It’s good quality food so you’re likely to pay a premium unless you fill yourself up on free samples, at the risk of looking very tight of course!
